The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (BoldProgressives.org) is a million member grassroots organization building power at the local, state and federal levels.

It engages in electoral work and issue advocacy work — fighting on democracy issues and for economic populist priorities like expanding Social Security, Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, student debt cancellation, and Wall Street reform. PCCC has been a proud supporter of Elizabeth Warren since her first run for Senate and was the first national political organization to endorse her for president in the 2020 election.

London mayoral election to be changed to First Past the Post system under Government plans

Arow erupted today after Priti Patel announced plans to change the way the Mayor of London is elected.

She announced moves to dump the “supplementary vote” system used since 2000 and adopt a simple “first past the post” (FPP) contest from 2024 onwards. There has been no announcement of changing the much more complicated system used to elect members of the London Assembly, perhaps because switching that to FPP would benefit Labour.

At a time when a 2021 election seems likely, and as CPC leader Erin O’Toole continues his so far unsuccessful attempt to break through with the electorate, Conservatives will gather this week for their party’s policy convention.

They will do so knowing half of Canadians express a desire for a change in government, yet show little want for an election before fall, and still give the incumbent Liberals a slight edge in vote intention.

Rethinking The Presidential Election Campaign Fund

When you filed your tax return last spring, did you check off the “Presidential Election Campaign” box on the Form 1040? Didn’t think so.

Hardly anyone did. Indeed, the share of tax filers who check the box to contribute $3 for presidential campaigns has plummeted in recent decades. And because so few candidates in recent years take the money, a portion of the accumulated contributions is being used to fund medical research for children. You probably didn’t know that, especially since the Form 1040 says “Presidential Election Campaign,” and not “Presidential Election Campaign/Pediatric Research.”
