Georgia Gov. Kemp slams Biden after ‘Jim Crow’ dig at state’s voting laws

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp fired back at President Biden for calling a new round of election reform laws passed by the state legislature as “Jim Crow in the 21st century,” saying the legislation actually expands voting.

“I can truthfully look in the camera and ask my African-American friends and other African-Americans in Georgia to simply find out what’s in the bill versus just this blank statement of this is Jim Crow or this is voter suppression, or this is racist, because it is not,” Kemp said during an interview Saturday on Fox News.

Georgia Republicans Turn Trump’s Baseless Claims of Voter Fraud Into an Electoral Strategy

On Monday, Georgia’s incumbent senators, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, both Republicans, issued a joint statement calling on Georgia’s secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, who is also a Republican, to resign. “The Secretary of State has failed to deliver honest and transparent elections,” Loeffler and Perdue insisted. They did not provide any evidence, nor did they question a specific result. Loeffler—who was appointed to the Senate late last year by Georgia’s governor, the Republican Brian Kemp, after the longtime senator Johnny Isakson retired—ran against twenty-one candidates in a special election this fall, and finished second, securing a spot in a January runoff, against the Democrat Raphael Warnock. Perdue, in his race, received about 1.5 per cent more of the vote than the Democrat Jon Ossoff, and about a third of a point less than the fifty per cent threshold required for victory by Georgia election law. (A libertarian, Shane Hazel, received about two per cent of the vote.) Perdue is headed to a runoff, too. Neither Perdue nor Loeffler is entitled to a recount; both candidates are already campaigning. Group says it’s challenging residency of 364K Georgia voters

A conservative group said Friday that it’s challenging the eligibility of more than 364,000 Georgia voters before election officials in each of the state’s 159 counties ahead of January runoff elections that will decide control of the U.S. Senate.

The Texas-based True the Vote said it’s working with Georgia residents across the state to make challenges under a state law that allows any registered voter to challenge the eligibility of any other voter within the same county. It’s up to local election boards to determine whether those challenges have merit.
